Gli scatti di Kevin Cummins rappresentano alcune delle immagini più celebri della scena musicale di tutti i tempi. Al centro c’è la città di Manchester con la sua vivacità culturale, che ne ha fatto dagli anni Ottanta fino ai giorni nostri una fucina di stili e tendenze musicali giovanili che si sono continuamente alternate, dai Joy Division ai primi passi degli Oasis, dalle testimonianze della Factory Records (la più importante etichetta discografica locale) alle schegge acide ed esagerate della Madchester degli Happy Mondays. Immagini ormai diventate icone, come quelle della serie “Arca” che ritraggono i JoyDivision su un ponte innevato nel leggendario quartiere di Hulme, hanno contribuito creare un amalgama inconfondibile tra Manchester e la sua musica, proiettando verso l’esterno visioni talvolta romantiche, talvolta violente, creative o dark ambientate negli suoi spazi post-industriali, davanti ai suoi muri di mattoni scuri, sotto i suoi cieli spesso gravidi di pioggia. Questo mix di immagini della città e della sua storia musicale è accompagnato da saggi e interviste firmati da Paul Morley, Stuart Maconie, Gavin Martin, John Harris e altre firme prestigiose della rivista NME.

Having founded Soulland in 2002, Silas Adler has developed the label into a leading name in fashion circles not only in Europe but around the globe. Soulland’s design esthetic is rooted in traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship and through great attention to the detailing of the clothes, classic menswear is reinterpreted with a present-day esthetic. A rich concept that coincides with the opening of the U.S. Import, a retail project conceived with Stine Kinch who is also an integral part of Soulland. With a large red, white and blue sign that reads “U.S. Import” has hung over the store through several ownerships. Honoring the tradition of laziness and recycling, the sign will remain up and has given name to the store it makes for a compelling outlet for Soulland as well as unique space in the Copenhagen market. Here Silas Adler and Stine Kinch provide us with a greater insight into the project having answered a few of my questions.

The soul of a new identity is hidden within this fusion, characterised by the desire for revolution and change.
This reflects the admiration of anticonformist generations, particularly the punk one, which forms the main inspiration and the sound-track of every creation.

Any Henrik Vibskov show inevitably brings about an air of excitement and uncertainty, since his innovative vision often results in unorthodox combinations. While the 2010 Fall/Winter collection inspired by Sin City and Malcom X maintains a fair share of avant garde design, the Vibskov also offers some more minimal pieces. Patterns are a strong point in the collection, reproduced in patchwork items including trousers and jackets.
