We are the new rich. The Odeur Spring/Summer 2011 collection is inspired by Nouveau Riche attributes. Being named Where the Shimmer Lies, the collection seeks to investigate the indulgent use of fashion often expressed by the ones struggling to show the world their newly achieved wealth.
A use of mixed bright summer colours in contrast to a more dark scale, this collection is made rich and easy by its mix of materials as well as by details of metallic copper – the new gold. A playful relationship to the silhouette, a focus on details and unexpected cuttings characterizes the unisex collection – as always.
From Rachel Comey comes this classic dress shoe form in matte black with a green rubber sole. It’s a fun update to a basic essential and it’s always nice to see something crazy from Rachel Comey. “Often her clothes seem daunting until the piece is tried on and suddenly it takes on a life of it’s own. Using daring cuts, bright patterns, and an artist’s eye, Rachel creates clothing that is modern and timeless all at once.”
Indie warblers Beirut are back with a new single, their latest release since the EP March of the Zapotec/Holland back in February of 2009. Lead singer and instrumentalist Zach Condon originally wrote this song to be played on the ukelele when he was only 17, but it has since been rearranged into a rather jovial piano-driven track. The release is available for purchase now on vinyl along with another new track entitled “Goshen” and some canine-influenced album artwork. The new material from Beirut will be made available for download on June 14, 2011.
